Reality TV got ‘really real’ for our household this weekend as we trooped off to Wembley Arena for the X Factor Live Tour. Packed with 8-18 year old fans and various amused, sullen or awkward parents and older siblings. A concert as slick as the TV shows (just the last eight contestants from the previous season and no judges) brought home again that if people feel they made the ‘star’ (and shame again on the TV companies involved in the voting scandal) the bond is pretty strong. The ‘democratisation of TV’, ‘reality TV’, ‘audience participation TV’, call it what you will, but my free predication is it is here to stay and those looking down their nose at it are probably (as usual) not looking where they are going.
