Today’s Sun has a fab second world war poster from the Ministry of Health instructing the nation that “Coughs and sneezes spread diseases”. Proof that official health warnings are not new things at all. Below is a video of somewhat indeterminate age with the same message and some more posters of a smilar vintage. Obviously we all now believe in tissues not hankerchiefs, but I think these old style ads have a certain charm and have changed my Facebook avatar to carry the message. I would change my Twitter avatar too but that page is down. Suggest you do your bit too and spread the word to stop the spread of germs. Viral marketing to beat the virus as it were. Your country needs you!
And those silly facemasks are not even new either.
The UK media has gone completely overboard with the swine flu situation. Of course it’s worrying for us all and sad for those affected, but the majority of Brits seem level-headed about it and largely sarcastic about how the papers are covering the story.
The last thing the media wants when it is struggling to modernise and engage with its readership is to lose touch with those very readers by discrediting itself.
